Dear [Mayor / Council Member / Supervisor ___],
[One sentence: where you live, and your connection to the water — a well, a farm, the river.]
My family's water comes out of the ground here. The proposed site sits over karst, and the karst aquifer is connected to the North Fork of the Shenandoah. We are in a drought right now, and no water-use figures for this project have been made public. I am not able to evaluate a risk to my own drinking water because the numbers have not been shared.
Water in this valley has always been limited. It is drinking water and it is farmland — it is not an industrial input.
I'm asking you to amend the zoning ordinance to remove data centers as a permitted use in every district, and to adopt a modern definition that distinguishes a hyperscale campus from a 1990s data processing room.
Thank you for your time and for your service to this community.

Dear [Mayor / Council Member / Supervisor ___],
[One sentence: how long you've been here, or what brought you — and what you'd hate to lose.]
Farmland, quiet, the night sky, and the North Fork are not amenities here. They are the reason people live in this county, and they are the reason people move to it. A roughly two-million-square-foot industrial campus running around the clock beside a rural town is not an addition to that — it replaces it.
This is not something a county gets back once it trades it away. I would like my grandchildren to see a town that still looks like itself.

Dear [Mayor / Council Member / Supervisor ___],
[One sentence: your household, your budget, or your business — and what a rising bill would mean.]
A campus of this size requires power on a scale this county has never supplied. I have not seen a clear public answer to three basic questions: where that power comes from, who pays to build the capacity to carry it, and what that means for the people already on this grid.
Tax revenue has been offered as the reason to accept this. I would like to see the other side of that ledger before a permanent decision is made on my behalf.

Dear [Mayor / Council Member / Supervisor ___],
[One sentence: when you first heard about this project, and how you found out.]
The zoning language being used to permit this project was written in 2014, before hyperscale data centers existed in anything like their current form. Because of that language, no one currently in office has taken a vote on whether a project of this size belongs beside this town.
That is not a scandal; it is a gap in the code, and closing gaps in the code is exactly what you were elected to do.
Permanent decisions about a community's land, water, and character should require the consent of the people who live there. We were never asked.

Frederick County's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to begin that process. Loudoun County ended by-right data center development in 2025. Harrisonburg moved to special use permits. This is a path localities are permitted to take.

Dear [Mayor / Council Member / Supervisor ___],
[One sentence: your kids or grandkids, and what you want this county to be when they're grown.]
My children will live with this decision far longer than anyone making it. An industrial campus of this scale is not a twenty-year commitment for a rural county, it sets what this place is. I would rather hand my kids a county that was careful than one that was fast.
I am not asking you to stop growth. I am asking you to decide what kind, out loud, in public, with a vote.
